A trip to Aso volcanoe - Kumamoto

26/08/2009

It was just after a morning at kikuchi gorge. It was nearly 1 or 2 in the afternoon when suddenly my friend decided to give an ear to my pledge to go to see Mount Aso,a living volcano located in the Kumamoto prefecture.
We had nearly 2 hour or more trip towards Mt.Aso which was just 28 kilometers away from Kikuchi.
On our way to Mt.Aso , we were in to a drive on green mountain tops where green layers of plain were all you could see everywhere. It was too good to be true. It was all green plain running till the far end your eyes can reach. Suddenly we came across a stop, a place where the road was broadened so that the vehicle could be parked.
One glance down the valley, it was the most magnificent view I ever saw. Little town situated in the plain far below surrounded by the range of volcanic mountains. It was plainly a hand drawn oil painting. I could not believe my eyes. It was so simply amazing.

We went all the way up and then down to then Aso town. Aso town is said to be a volcano caldera long long time ago. Once when it had a blast 10,000 or more years ago, it had become this plain which now has converted itself in to a beautiful, busy town. We asked the way to Aso volcano s living caldera from a classic souvenir shop. It is said to be the world`s largest living volcanic caldera.
After learning the way we headed towards the Aso mountain top. Too bad that I could not take any photograph of what I `m going to say next. The range of mountain can be also seen as a man fallen on the ground holding a sword looking towards the cloudless blue summer sky.It is simply amazing once when you get to know how to look at it. This can be all along the way until you start climbing the mountain again to reah the caldera.
It is a very lonely uphill road where you are surrounded with the cold wind and the green layer of grass and hills. The beautiful loneliness accompany you all the way up towards the caldera. We reached the caldera but too bad that it was already closed for the day and mostly it was covered with warning of poisonous gas warnings!!!A cable rope way takes you up to the caldera and also a bus route was also there. Too bad none of them was at service when we reached there. It closes at 5.30 and no living human being lingers there after 5.30. It was freaking queer when we reached there. Everything closed for the day with no living human being near, even in an emergency.

After watching the caldera at distance my next aim was to catch a glimpse of wild horses of Kumamoto and I had a long long walk down the green plains where no other human being might have treadled in years. Finally I managed to capture wild horses after nearly 60-minute walk up and down the plain.

It was already the sun set when we started climbing down the mountain range towards Oita. Then came the second breath taking view of Aso town. The little glittering town lights of Aso town below blenched with the gleaming redness of the setting sun was so breath taking.

19/07/2010 Another dream coming true. I always wanted to go there.I was collecting leaflets, pamphlets about this but never thought of   going due to the high costs. Well, luck was upon me this one time. It was early morning of 5.45 and I was waiting for my sensei s vehicle in front of  Toyama Station. I did know the plans for the day but that we were going to Tateyama. Were we going to Kurobe Dam too, or going to Kurobe Dam?Were we going to take the Alpen Route or go straight to Kurobe? Surprises were waiting. We reached Tateyama Station and I knew it is my dream coming true. Weather and information of the day  It was around 14degrees at the top of the mountain while it was nearly 36degrees at the foot. We were simply above the clouds and the temperature difference was too much to bear. It was cold in the summer. Early in the morning when we passed the Murodo staion on our way to Kurobe dam it was clear all around. in the aftern...
