Thissa Reservoir - Hambanthota

2013/12/28 It had been one and half years since I was in Sri Lanka last. Hambanthota a remote city situated near 200Km away from Colombo had gone through so many development phases in the past several years. My parents took me across Hambanthota to the sacred shrine of Katharagama letting me witness the "Change for Good". Well, all through out the journey I noticed only the beautiful greenery and rich nature still intact of the raging development process. Following are some scenarios I managed to capture on the way to Katharagama. It was  a cloudy solid day. The following were taken on the way back. The sky was till cloudy but held it that way all the way till we go home. All these beautiful giants in water can be seen from the main road(Thissa- Katharagama Road) as the road runs over the Thissa Reservoir bunt. This reservoir is believed to be built by King yatalathissa around second century BC. This was resotred later by the British who col...

Blue Lake - Biei

2014/08/10 Blue Pond or Blue Lake is not a spot to miss if you are in Hokkaido. This pond was formed very recently when the flow of Biei river was interrupted by a blockade. The blockade was built in 1989 to stop any future hazards caused by lava or magma emitted by volcano eruptions around the area, flowing down the river to the villages. The reason for the color of the pond is yet to be known. Most of the scientists believe that it is due to the AlOH (Aluminium Hydroxide) in the water reflecting the sunlight. The Beauty of the pond does not lie only in the color of it. Trees like larch and birch have rooted in the middle of the pond adding a beautiful scenery. These photographs are not the best shots of Blue Pond but this what i captured through my lens. Thank you Amilendra, Danuka, Pasanga, Patali, Mahesh and Hasani for the unforgettable memories. This hot water spring has a blueish white. The spring is always covered with the white mist like vapor and the water is said to be of a boiling 99 degrees. You can also enjoy a little aquarium inside the hot spring premises where the killer fish Piranha lives. 6.1 The Shiraike Hell Then we next went to the 「鬼山地獄」-oniyama jigoku- .This hot water spring has no special color. This water is also at 99 degrees and spraying a hot mist around the pool. This premise has some crocodile nests where various types of Malaysian crocodiles live. there are somewhere around 15 species.
