Osaka in one day

08/08/2009

We reached Osaka at 10 in the morning by the bullet train after starting from shin-Yokohama at 7.30 in the morning. First we put our bags in a Umeda station coin locker and set out to enjoy Osaka. We bought the one day pass 2000yen subway ticket to travel all around Osaka in the subway, with free pass coupons attached.

First we went to The Universal city and enjoyed the summer sun there. we did not enter the Universal studios premises but took photos of the entrance and all. Then we went to the American mura - American village - a shopping area which is more like harajuku in Tokyo. We had our meal at a McDonald (a poor lunch) in the american mura.

Then we set out again towards the 道頓堀 dotonbori canal. We were planning to enjoy the river cruise, which was really more like a canal cruise. This cruise cruises down the dotonbori canal passing so many bridges and famous landmarks of Osaka. The famous land mark of the Glico man and the famous Ebisubashi where Hanshin- tiger fans jump down to the dirty canal below whenever the team wins as in order to pay the price of a curse. The cruis e with a guide takes 20minutes up and down the canal. The ticket in real terms costs 700 yen but we had it for free as we had free pass coupon of the free one day pass.

Next we headed towards the 通天閣 tsutenkaku which really is the Osaka tower. This tower has been built on a shrine. This shrine belongs to an american god named Billiken which originally was a doll. As the people started experiencing bad aftermaths when this tower built the people decided to place the Billiken shrine at the top of the Osaka tower. From the top of the tower you can see all over Osaka. The free pass coupon makes it easier to enter climb the tower which otherwise costs 7oo yen.

Last place of Osaka to visit was the Osaka palace. We had a hard time managing time to reach and go through the osaka castle. We almost ran, And I walked throu all over the palace with no shoes,I really mean bare foot. any way the castle was worth the trouble. It was gold plated in most areas and so eegant. Inside the castle is now a museum. The most attractive thing was the so called golden tea room. whish was completely made of gold. It was really nice experiencing the past era of Japan.

19/07/2010 Another dream coming true. I always wanted to go there.I was collecting leaflets, pamphlets about this but never thought of   going due to the high costs. Well, luck was upon me this one time. It was early morning of 5.45 and I was waiting for my sensei s vehicle in front of  Toyama Station. I did know the plans for the day but that we were going to Tateyama. Were we going to Kurobe Dam too, or going to Kurobe Dam?Were we going to take the Alpen Route or go straight to Kurobe? Surprises were waiting. We reached Tateyama Station and I knew it is my dream coming true. Weather and information of the day  It was around 14degrees at the top of the mountain while it was nearly 36degrees at the foot. We were simply above the clouds and the temperature difference was too much to bear. It was cold in the summer. Early in the morning when we passed the Murodo staion on our way to Kurobe dam it was clear all around. in the aftern...

Borobudur - Yogyakarta

2014/05/06 Borobudur is the worlds largest Buddhist temple, hence UNESCO World Heritage Site. We had plans to watch the sunrise at Borbudur over Mount Merapi. So it was an early trip to the temple around 4.30 in the dark by torch light, wait for the sunrise enjoy the view from the top of the temple, have breakfast at Manohara hotel and leave. It was pitch dark in the night, not much moon. The torchlight showed us the way and a silhouette of a temple came in to view when our eyes gradually got used to the dark. With the first rays of sunlight, we saw Mount Merapi. The beautiful but vicious volcano fuming. Loved it! All around the place is covered in mist, so the actual surroundigs are yet to be confirmed. By now the temple, which we  have already climbed and waiting at the  top, is coming in to view. The stupas, carvings and statues gradually emerge. The temple is a symmetrical stupa, consisting of nine stacked platforms: six squar...
