Nishizawa Gorge - Yamanashi

2016/11/03     "The dullness around fails to hide its Full Glory ." Nishizawa Gorge is located in the very west of Yamanashi, close to the boundaries of Saitama and Nagano. Arakawa River flows through Chichibu mountains creating the Nishizawa Gorge. It is a hiking course of 4 hour walking along the river through muddy trails in the woods watching the river falling , flowing and gushing towards the city. Along the way we come across bridges and waterfalls. Too bad I could not capture any of the bridges but managed to capture the waterfalls which will be posted under a different post. .   It was November and the mid Autumn.  The water level was low and bearably cold. Here is Arakawa river flowing down the rocky steps through the stones. We walk up the river trail while the river flows in the opposite direction. The trails are narrow, and muddy at some parts. Some parts are safe guarded by metal chains and some parts are not. A little missed ste...

Rairai Gorge - Miyagi

2010/08/06 This gorge is at the head of the Natori river in Akiu.It a world of rocks and water running through cracks and faults in the rocks. The rocky Gorge is so creepy that its unbelievably silent. This is a free walking course and even more beautiful spots can be found down the river. We were in the hurry to catch the bus for Akiu waterfall so had to give up at this point. It is really creepy and would never recommend for a night walking even the track is safe (but no lights). Kikuchi Gorge - Kumamoto

26/08/2009 Kikuchi river is a beautiful river with numerous curves flowing from kumamoto to the sea. Kikuchi gorge has become a favorite walking course among Japanese people. It takes one hour to walk around the kikuchi gorge watching this river beauty curving itself and falling making enchanting waterfalls. Kikuchi is a beautiful nature spot throughout the year. I went there in the summer of 2009. In our case the vehicle was parked some where around 750 meters or more away from the original entrance. It was a walk up the hill watching the kikuchi river descending in all its glory. At the entrance there is a small shop selling grilled fish and grilled corn. Be kind enough to pay a 100 yen for the charity near the entrance so that you can receive a little route map of the walking course. The first gorgeous glimpse of the Kikuchi river s beauty can be caught here. The river forms a little Niagara on it s way down. Something really beautiful. The water is crystal clear, and I mean i...
